Water Injection Dredging (WID) is a dredging by using the tools of nature by removing sediments with aid of locals tidal or river flows. Fluidization of sedimented materials takes place with the aid of low pressure high flow jets. WID technique offers an environmentally friendly way of dredging to depth of ports, and navigation channels. A WID allows for working in close proximity of the quay wall or embankments and quay walls without the risk of under suction.
Dredging depts up to 23 m of depth can standard be achieved. Pending the local situation the use of WID dredging can be an way of dredging with lower environmental impact. The WID can be a cost effective alternative for a trailing suction hopper dredger, or grab dredger.
WID Installations
Neptune provides three main different systems for WID operations in combination with its rugged work boats series.
- An on board integrated system were an electric or diesel direct driven jet water pump provides sufficient flow and pressure to a fixed installed WID installation. The WID installation is handled by an A-frame on the aft section of the vessel and winches
- A plough – WID combi unit with 2 two submerged pumps mounted on the unit and powered by submerged electric motors. This unit can be handled with aid of an A-frame on the aft section of the vessel and the vessels winches. Power is provided to the WID installation via umbilical feed system.
- A containerized unit for deck mounting containing the pump & power installation. A removable U shape WID beam. To be handled with the on board installation.
We can apply both replaceable plastic nozzles as well as high wear resistant metal nozzles. We keep parts on stock for rapid delivery.
